When we founded Clearpool in 2014, some people thought the idea was incredibly ambitious. They thought the last thing the Street needed was another commoditized algo platform. But we had a bigger vision—one in which brokers would gain transparency into how their algorithms work and get the control to make changes to them based on their own unique trading goals. It was on those pillars of trust, transparency and control that we launched Clearpool and our flagship product, the Algorithmic Management System (AMS). The AMS powers our broker-dealer customers’ algorithmic trading strategies and gives them the tools and insights they need to effectively collaborate with their buy-side clients and manage their proprietary trading technology at scale. We have immense gratitude for our employees, clients and advocates who share in our vision and have helped shape the development of the AMS and our other products over the years. BMO is one of those clients who was an early adopter of the AMS and entered into a strategic engagement with us to develop Canadian market algorithms in 2018. They have not only experienced the power of the AMS first-hand, but they recognize the increasing importance electronic trading will have in our financial markets. Through this acquisition, BMO gains an award-winning modern electronic trading platform and a broker-dealer client base. As the markets continue to become more technologically dependent and other legacy electronic trading systems are antiquated, they will be able to provide market participants electronic trading solutions that are efficient, collaborative, and transparent—bringing them into the future of electronic trading. Clearpool is well-positioned with this acquisition to accelerate the next steps in our development to provide global multi-asset electronic trading solutions. BMO is fully committed to continued investment in Clearpool’s trading solutions and dedicated to maintaining our core principles. We will continue to develop innovative solutions as an independent offering within BMO and our clients will continue to receive the same high-quality service they receive today.
